Case competitions are the varsity sport of MBA programs. Graduate schools and corporations sponsor these contests where students compete to solve "real world" business problems.

Global
Citizenship Challenge

March 2007

A business case involving an ethical or social responsibility issue.  They hope the students discover usable solutions for handling their real world ethical issues and develop ideas on on how to extend the links in their corporate social responsibility chain.

American Bankruptcy Institute Case Competition

November 2006

Provides an opportunity for students from leading business schools to solve a hypothetical yet realistic business case of a distressed company before an audience of experts in the turnaround crisis management / restructuring industries.

Duke Fuqua MBA Brand Challenge

HABLA (Hispanic Association of Business Leaders Association) Case Competition

October 2006

The case is a Marketing / Brand Management competition sponsored by a different company every year. Students solve a hypothetical realistic business case of a distressed company.

Investor Services Journal Essay Competition

May 2006

The competition is open to full time students of an area of securities services to write 2000 words on a given question.

Executive Leadership Council Business Case Competition

April 2006

Open to African American MBA students and multi-racial teams.  Students will develop business strategies that help The Coca-Cola Company advance South Africa's goal to move previously disadvantaged individuals into the country's economic and leadership mainstream.

Simon Marketing Association Case Competition

April 16-17, 2006

5 minds, 5 hours, $5K.  The competition assembles teams of five students out of the pool of participants.  Each participant will be randomly assigned a team of five 1st year MBA students.  As participants work through the details of a real world marketing case based on current issues, students will share knowledge and experiences, brainstorm ideas, and formulate competitive strategies and solutions.   The winning team wins $5K.  http://sma.simon.rochester.edu

Loyola Marymount University  Center for Ethics and Business 8th Annual National Student Team Business Ethics Competition

April 6 - 8, 2006

This is a student team presentation competition and an optional athletic competition.  Teams of 3-5 students choose a topic from any area of business ethics and make a presentation in which they describe the issue and propose a solution.  www.ethicsandbusiness.org

Baruch College First Annual Corporate Ethics and Strategic Management Case Competition

JP Morgan Chase Shipley Competition

March 24, 2006

The competition raises awareness about the social impacts of business management decisions while providing the opportunity for students to compete for scholarship money. 

USF PSI International Business Plan Competition

March 22 - 25, 2006

Graduate students should submit a 5-7 page executive summary of their business plans by email attachment by February 1, 2006 for full consideration to Professor Mark Cannice at Cannice@usfca.edu.

Jungle Business Plan Competition

Student teams interact with real entrepreneurs from real companies with real business plans.  The VCIC experience exposes students to a variety of activities that ultimately must be integrated into a cohesive investment strategy to be pitched to real venture capitalists.

Corporate Finance Case Competition at Carnegie Mellon Tepper School of Business

Teams from the best MBA programs compete to prepare and present a challenging corporate finance case study, featuring a realistic decision making scenario.  Past case topics have been related to valuation, M&A, bankruptcy, dividend policy and capital budgeting.
