MBA/MSA 2nd Year

Mr. Whitaker is a second year at Loyola’s Graduate School of Business and will finish up in November with a M.B.A., concentrating in Finance and Economics, and a Master of Science in Accounting (M.S.A.).

The experience he gained at Abercrombie and Fitch was crucial in his personal development and exposed him to some very important areas in business management that he will carry with him for the rest of his business life.  He moved up very quickly through the company and was placed in charge of some very important (big dollar) districts.  However, after a few years, he found what his true passion was, and it involved a career change.

Mr. Whitaker grew up in a family of bankers.  His great-grandfather was a Vice President of the Federal Reserve in Louisville, KY and his son (Doug's grandfather) dealt largely with bank security and information technology.  When he was growing up, a week didn’t go by where one of them was talking to him about saving money and investing for the future.  Oddly enough, his great-grandfather was a very conservative investor (CD’s, bonds, and land), while his son was only interested in stocks.  So Doug got a great mix of advice on where and how to invest his money.  After working for a few years, he had saved quite a bit of money and also had inherited some money.  As he began to construct a portfolio of stocks and other investments, he realized how much he enjoyed doing the research and attempting to find the right avenues to invest in.  Doug decided to leave Abercrombie and Fitch and pursue the most rounded financial education that he could get, specifically dealing with investments and the financial markets.

Upon completing the program at Loyola, he hopes to find a position in equity research/risk management.  He would like to gain some experience in that area and turn that into a portfolio management position for the long term.  "My passion is investing, so I believe that career path will lead to “career enjoyment”.
