John Thomas Wong, CM&AA

Former President

MBA Alumni 07

Mr. Wong has been a significant factor in the initiation and founding of the Investment Banking & Financial Markets Club.  Mr. Wong studied chemical engineering at The Ohio State University through his 3rd year when he decided he wanted to change careers to finance.  His best course of action was to finish undergrad with a chemistry degree and launch his investment banking career by pursuing his MBA in finance and accounting at Loyola University Chicago.  During his first year of business school, he worked at Morgan Stanley where he developed a broad understanding of the financial markets.  He gained exposure to both equity & debt, derivatives, funds, IPO's, and interactions with clients.  He resigned from Morgan Stanley to focus on the initiation of the Investment Banking & Financial Markets Club.  He immediately contacted the Finance Department and the Business Career Center to give them the proposal.  After drawing up a strategic plan, John began establishing the website, contacting executives, and writing up financial modeling & valuation problems.  He strategically designed the constitution and by-laws of the organization so that members would have the highest probability of landing their targeted career.  He believes that by conducting informational interviews with executives, not only are we retrieving invaluable insight, we are getting our foot in the door.  The promotions within the club that are contingent on activities or job placements create an opportunity for members to bring added value to their future interviews.  Mr. Wong is a CFA candidate preparing for the Level 3 exam in June 2008.  Mr. Wong holds the Certified Merger & Acquisition Advisor credential which he acquired after sitting through a rigorous program on valuation, tax, and the legal aspects of M&A.  The program was sponsored by the AM&AA and was held at the University of Chicago.  John has also been nominated for Alpha Sigma Nu which is the highest honor at Jesuit institutions, including all disciplines. Only 4% of students nationwide are invited.  Mr. Wong received an offer from Lehman Brothers and began his career as a Derivatives Analyst.
