IT'S YA GIRL!!
Do you know where you were on October 8th, 1984? I know where I was, being born in Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. I was the last of three children to be born in my family. I have two older brothers who have always been there for me and I have my parents who love each other dearly.
Who would have known that I would end up being five foot seven inches, when I was born at about fourteen inches and barely three pounds? I was in an incubator for a month; keeping all who loved me in suspense of when I would be healthy enough to come out and came out of the hospital on Halloween.
At the age of five, I started playing soccer. It has been my joy through all the years. I was even a member of the Women’s Loyola soccer team this year. It was so much fun and one of the best experiences I have ever had in my life. We made history this year in that it was the first time we have ever won the Horizon League Tournament and therefore made it to the first round of the NCAA tournament where we ended up losing to number two-ranked Notre Dame. A girl on our team wrote a wonderful article about the journey if you are interested in reading more about it just click on the "We Are The Champions" link below.
I have always enjoyed being around little kids and helping them out. During this soccer season, the team put on a soccer program called the “Yes! clinic.” Inner city kids ranging from 3rd to 8th grade from Chicago came to the Gentile Center and we taught them all sorts of fun soccer games. It was one of the best days I have ever had and I wanted it to go on forever. I had so much fun teaching the kids and helping out the ones who were having trouble with the drill be able to understand and do it. Just seeing the sadden looks on their faces change to so much fun and excitement brought such a good feeling to me. This is the main reason why I decided to become an elementary education teacher. I want to help kids learn and grow in positive ways; I want them to learn not only school related topics, but also facts about everyday life. I want to be able to help them create happy and healthy lifestyles with healthy relationships.
